The Local Startup Summit which was held on the 1st of July 2021 at the Active Auditorium in Dambai had a lot of entrepreneurs, stakeholders, government agencies like GEA, Krachi East Assembly, YEA and industry players attending the event.
The technical lead of Developers Academy Ebenezer Y.O. Laryea in his welcome address, expressed his excitement of seeing the great transformation of various teams as they continue to work on innovative ideas right from the start of the training till date. He also mentioned this has a great potential to effect change in Dambai and Oti at large.
The pitch was held after trainees were taken through intensive 6 week long training in Digital Media in the areas of digital marketing, photography, Videography, Sound Engineering, Creative writings, but to mention a few.
After this long training, the participants were asked to come up with a business idea around those areas by identifying a problem and creating the solution. To help the audience and guests appreciate the creativity and the hard work of each team, the Director of Developers Academy, Simeon Martey Kwawununu took his time to highlight the various activities the trainees had throughout the six week long to come this far. He also explains how lucrative and attractive the sector is, the challenges, and how they have come this far despite the many people doing the same thing. Explaining the way forward after the Local Startup Summit, he mentioned GTL has made a provision for the teams who may not proceed to the incubation phase to proceed unto the internship phase of the program. This is a rare opportunity to learn best practices coupled with weekend classes with Developers Academy to get fully prepared for the job market.
Four teams made their presentations with business names; Growth Media, First Step, Creative Life and United.
At the end of the pitch competition which was presided by a jury of three with rich experience and practice from the digital media space, finance and entrepreneurship skills development; United came out as 1st followed by Creative Life placing 2nd, Growth Media as 3rd and First Step as 4th.
The first, second and third businesses received an award for a great work done. The first and second move on to the incubation phase while the 3rd and 4th proceed to the Internship phase.
At the end of the summit, the startups receive amazing suggestions from the audience. The jury also shared their excitement of innovation and creativity displaced by each team. They advise the team to continue to work on their ideas as they progress into incubation so as to come out with more innovative and attractive businesses. Our local partners including Child Dream Foundation, Posh Media, Big Dream, BuemKasa, Citi TV, Kano FM among others express the joy and satisfaction in the creativity displaced and urge GTL together with Developers Academy to continue the good work in the Oti region and beyond.
